Remember Kate Middleton’s wedding to Prince William? Of course you do! Well her parents had their party for their friends at… The Goring (as there wasn’t enough room at the formal wedding celebrations for all the Middleton friends). The day started with photos of Kate Middleton leaving the Goring – her last few hours prior to becoming the Duchess of Cambridge. This exclusive, lovely hotel in the heart of London is far less touristy than the Ritz – the beautiful bar and gardens are full of British Ladies who lunch, business men in the know having a quick catch up meeting, and Dads taking daughters somewhere for a bar lunch and drink.
This hotel has everything – outdoor gardens and a terrace
with exposed balcony. The cheese straws they bring with drinks are melt in the mouth.
There is also a beautiful bar area for cream teas and bar food, and the most wonderful fine dining restaurant with set price lunches available.
The executive chef is Shay Cooper and he won the restaurant’s first michelin star and AA rosette.
The appetisers were all lovely but the Cep risotto, with Rachel goats cheese, Iberico ham, and smoked butter stood out in presentation and reduced intense mushroom taste.
The plates and cups and saucers make a statement – you want to admire the art before lifting a thing to your mouth – I just love them.
The main courses were good, especially the chicken
The deserts were simple but very good
And the petit fours included the most inspired idea of fudge with a topping of passion fruit
It isn’t cheap but you can easily pay these sort of prices for a much more mediocre meal in London so for a special occasion (this was a friend’s birthday celebration with a few of us) it is well worth it and must be one of the best value michelin lunches in London! Really heavenly.
